FROM THE HEADMISTRESS’ DESK 17 October 2012
Dear Parents
I know there has been a significant silence from me since we have returned to school. The reason is that work on our Nursery School building ground to a halt due to an objection from a neighbour. We were not able to communicate with you regarding the situation since our neighbour insisted that we keep negotiations confidential if there was to be a settlement. As we were hoping that the matter would be settled and that we could continue with the building, we acquiesced to his demand. However, late last week, we learned that the matter would not be settled, and that we would be forced to pursue regulatory and legal solutions.
Since the building work was stopped, we have expended a great deal of time, energy and effort in trying to find a solution to accommodate all of the children. Of the many possible options we investigated, only one seemed to do this. Nursery School parents, and parents of children who would be affected by the proposed solution, were invited to a meeting to hear our thoughts.
I am sure that you have become aware that the proposal was met with significant unhappiness and so, it was agreed that the School Board would review all the options and make itself open to receiving new suggestions.
I have been heartened to hear that parents have banded together to brainstorm the problem and have offered their resources and their energy to support the school in finding a solution which is acceptable to the parents of all of the children involved.
Simultaneously, the school is working to find a solution and we are definitely open to hearing alternative
suggestions. As you know, the Board will be meeting again on Tuesday evening and we would be glad if offers of help and resources were received prior to the meeting.
This morning, we are pursuing the suggestion which was made at the meeting by one of our parents; to use the eventing procedure to temporarily increase the number of pupils permitted on the property.
I know this is a difficult time for you, but I am hoping that we can work together to find a viable alternative which can work for our children.
I wish you all a happy midterm and look forward to seeing you next week.
Warm regards
MRS N. HILLEN
