Isinkwa February 2013

To the moms and dads of Beaulieu Preparatory School and Beaulieu Nursery School, the Isinkwa outreach programme started in 2010 and thanks to the support of parents, teachers and pupils, it has grown tremendously over the years. Late in 2012 the Isinkwa Committee was established in order to broaden our support base, both within the school and in the communities which we aim to assist.

This committee will take responsibility for planning annual outreach events to ensure that these meet the objectives of the BPS/BeNS Outreach Philosophy. The committee will also review what resources each initiative requires, to minimise the burden on the school, but ensure ongoing efficacy of such interventions. The committee will also review current projects on a regular basis, and ensure that new opportunities are created for our children to give of their time, talents and resources in an appropriate and meaningful way.

We would like our children to really understand what Outreach is all about and how they, even in small ways, can really make a difference. Through such initiatives the pupils themselves will be enriched and will grow in the spirit of caring and supporting those less fortunate than themselves.

Our philosophy is such that, despite being a relatively small school, we can still undertake outreach that is meaningful to all those involved.

The recipient of the weekly “Bread for a Buddy” sandwiches is a feeding scheme in Diepsloot.  They also receive Easter Eggs, winter clothing and food, shoes and stationery, Christmas bags, etc. The other recipients include Child Welfare in Toekomsrus, The Village Safe Haven in Buccleuch, MC Weiller Primary in Alexandra, Africa food for Thought, Cosmo City, The Happy Ethan Project and Akani. We may also on an ad hoc basis choose to support certain charities that are close to teachers/pupils within our school.

The BPS/BeNS Outreach Strategy, as well as details of current outreach initiatives, is available on the D6.

We would love to hear from those parents who would like to be involved in the Isinkwa projects, whether it is to lend a helping hand during collection or distribution, or be involved on the committee.

It is not an onerous commitment, but it is one that will change your life !!

We are looking forward to another wonderful year of outreach,

The Isinkwa Committee.
